Music is like the mycelium of a mushroom: The most interesting part about it is not the mushroom itself, not the part we see aboveground, but the unseen body of the entire organism that grows underground. The mycelium is what makes the mushroom functional and magical, and the part that allows it to connect to the rest of the world. In music this is the community, the process, the rehearsals, the writing, the arranging and the trial and error, the lifestyle and the way of thinking, not just the shows.
Ants on a LogMusic for children and other childlike people
Founded in 2015 by Anya Rose and Julie Be, Ants on a Log performs socially-conscious music for all ages in the Greater Philadelphia area. We released our third album, "Make It Myself" in April of 2023, and recently added drummer Miles Crabtree to the band! Two-time awardees of the Leeway Grant for Art and Social Change, we also won a Parent's Choice Award for our musical, "Curious: Think Outside the Pipeline!" about two siblings who fight against the fossil fuel industry. We are regularly played on SiriusXM and Kids' Corner on WXPN. See our separate website here: |

You're welcome :) We study rhythms with roots in Brazil. Our class meets twice a week under teacher Mike Stevens, founder and leader of Phillybloco. We also perform at community events and protests. Fellow drummer, Bobbi Block, and I organize a five-day summer camp for adults. Reach out to hear about our second annual, "Beat Retreat" at the Ashokan Center in Upstate NY (2023). |
